If your plans are flexible and your airline calls for volunteers to be bumped – take it. Airlines often overbook flights and require volunteers to give up their seats. The airline will book you on the next available flight (sometimes even upgrading your seat) and also give you a few hundred dollars in credit for a future trip. If you don't like what they're offering and no one is volunteering, be the first to ask for more. Get some strategy ideas here.
