Discounts are often available for students, veterans and seniors; and even AAA and NARP (National Association of Rail Passengers) members are eligible for discounts. Ask around to see what discounts you might qualify for, and be sure to have your membership card ready when making a reservation. Note that Amtrak requires a 3-day advance purchase for these discounts. This is common for hotels, cars, etc.
