One of the greatest and cheapest sources of heat is the sun. In winter, make sure to open blinds and curtains to let as much sunlight in as possible. Also consider using a wood fireplace or wood-burning stove instead of gas or electric heat. These will both save on heating costs. Often free firewood can be found on notice boards like Craigslist.org – you’ll just have to go pick it up. In summer, keep blinds closed to keep the sun out, but open windows to let the breeze in if there is one. See if your local utility company has started using wind power, too.
