Although we recommend generic brands in a lot of other categories, that’s not necessarily the case here. With electronics, although you’ll pay more for a brand name, it’ll often save you money in the long run because the item will live longer and have less issues along the way. Even if it does have issues–and, let’s face it, that’s pretty much unavoidable with any brand of electronics–you’ll usually get better customer service with a brand name.
Don’t skip generic brands entirely, but do your research if you buy generic. Keep in mind that many new brands have emerged to be very reliable and, at times, better than bigger names that have been around longer. Vizio is probably the best known example, having quickly become the #1 LCD HDTV company.
