Outdoor water use accounts for nearly 20% of total home water use, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Adding drought-tolerant plants – plants that can survive a two- to three-month drought without supplemental watering – can significantly reduce the monthly water bill. There are literally hundreds of drought-tolerant plants out there, including many trees, vines, shrubs, annuals, perennials and succulents. Do an internet search to see what grows well in your geographical area, or checkout these water-wise plants.
