A regular Tempur-Pedic foam mattress can run $2,000-3,000 or more. If you want the comfort of foam without the hefty price tag, build your own. Buy a basic innerspring mattress (no need to splurge on a pricey one, just something that feels comfortable) and top it off with a 2-4 inch foam mattress topper. You’re sleeping right on top of the foam topper so you’ll get similar comfort, but at a fraction of the price. This same trick might add a few years on to the comfort life of your current mattress, so you can save on that big replacement cost.
