The cost of extended warranties is often higher than the cost to replace or fix broken appliances, which seem to have a tendency to break after a warranty expires anyway. But do make sure the appliance comes with the standard manufacturer’s warranty. If possible, pay with a credit card that extends that warranty, for free extra coverage. For those unlucky in the appliance department (i.e., your appliances don’t tend to last too long), consider a multi-appliance warranty, to cover most major appliances in the home. It may save money in the long run.
