Dozens of items used around the house can be found at dollar stores, often for a fraction of the price charged by grocery stores. Everything from tin foil to Ziploc bags, light bulbs, storage containers, toiletries, paper towels and more can be found for huge bargains.
But not everything is a bargain, since many package sizes are smaller than you’ll find in other stores. For those items you’ll have to buy more packages to get the same amount of stuff, negating any potential savings. To compare, divide the cost of the package ($1 for example) by the number of items inside. That “unit price” is what you can use to compare versus your grocery store or warehouse club, to see where you are really getting the best deal.
