Many “gas-saving gadgets” (aka “fuel-saving devices”) on the market can actually harm your car instead of making it more fuel-efficient. Be careful what you put in your car and do research on any new gadget before use – never rely on the advertising claims alone. New devices are always coming on the market and respected industry publications like Popular Mechanics are good places to turn for unbiased advice. The EPA did an independent test a few years back on more than 50 devices in their Aftermarket Retrofit Device Evaluation Program, also known as the “511 Program.”
