Renting instead of buying a breast pump may be a more frugal option if you will only need it for a month or two, or just for a couple of days. A rental costs about $8 per day or $50 per month, possibly less for longer rentals. This can be a lot less than the $250-300 cost to buy one, if you won’t need it very long. Breast pump manufacturer Medela lists places that rent pumps according to zip code, or check Google for other local options. However, for mothers who plan to pump for more than four months, buying might be a smarter move. Or ask a friend who is no longer nursing if you can borrow theirs.
