When buying a new dishwasher or washing machine, look for the ENERGY STAR rating. These will be more energy and water-efficient, saving money on water and electric bills.
For dishwashers, skip pre-rinsing to save water and only run the dishwasher when it is full. For the washing machine, only use it when you have a full load. If you must use a washing machine with a small load, be sure to adjust the setting for low water or small load, and wash in cold water when possible to save on hot water costs.
