In addition to buying a mattress protector, remember to vacuum the mattress regularly to get rid of dust, dander and dust mites. Use the upholstery attachment on the end of the vacuum cleaner. This is especially important for those with allergies.
Air the mattress out each morning – pull the covers down for an hour before making the bed – to avoid moisture build-up.
Most mattresses need to be flipped and rotated regularly – every six months. Flip it over so that the top is now on the bottom, and turn it so the head is now at the foot of the bed. This will help provide even wear on the mattress and will help it last longer.
