Mattress prices are usually marked up significantly by the retailer, so you should be looking for a pretty steep discount from “retail” price. Aim for 50% off at a minimum. 70-80% might be possible on an older model. If a store seems very willing to negotiate, then you can probably drive an even bigger bargain. Plus most mattresses do the job quite nicely, so it’s not worth spending $1000s on something the salesperson is trying to push. And salespeople do get commissions, sometimes on specific brands or models, so don’t assume you are getting an honest opinion on which one is “best”.
