From time to time you can find a new printer on sale at a huge discount. Check the models sitting on the clearance rack at your local retailer, or on promotion during a big holiday savings event. Most new printers come with a smaller capacity “starter” toner cartridge that might only have 30-50% of the ink of a regular cartridge. However, if the price of the printer is low enough, you can buy this cheap printer just for the ink. Cartridges are typically interchangeable between the same printer models. So if you can find a new printer that matches your current one, take the toner cartridge out of the new one and VOILA! you have a cheap ink replacement. Alternatively you can just swap in the new one for your old one when the ink runs out.
Don’t fill up the landfill with the printer you don’t need: try reselling it via Craigslist, eBay or selling it back to Gazelle. You can also donate it to a local charity or school.
