Do you need to rent a car, or will public transportation and taxis get you around better? Think about what works for where you are going, what you intend to do, and even what extra things like gas and parking will cost. Sometimes it is cheaper to walk, bike, taxi & use public transportation – and there are fun benefits, too, to traveling like a local. Other times, though, a car is essential and will save a great deal of money – such as in large cities, regions you want to tour, or when you are traveling into distant airports or wish to visit distant attractions and can’t find shuttles.
