Even on rail travel, it is often much cheaper to buy a round-trip ticket than two one-way tickets. And traveling overnight can save both in cheaper fares (since it is a less popular time to travel) and also save the cost of a night at a hotel. Sometimes it is even less expensive to purchase accommodation in a sleeper car than it is to book a hotel – and both offer you a bed for the night.
