Use occupancy sensors or timers on lights instead of leaving them on all the time. These are good outside, and will switch on when it senses someone approaching. This will use much less electricity than leaving an outdoor light on all night. In addition, try timers for inside lights if your family frequently forgets to shut them off at night. This is useful when going on vacation, too. Set the timer to go on for a few hours each night, and it will look like someone is still home.
