Wrap a blanket around your hot water storage tank or heater to help insulate it. The extra warmth means less energy will be required to keep it warm. Newer models will likely be properly insulated, but older models will need more insulation. If it’s warm to the touch, it needs a blanket. Just don’t cover the top, bottom, thermostat or burner compartment. Also insulate the pipes to help keep hot water hot, and consider installing a heat trap on pipes to eliminate heat loss, too.
