If you want to save 50% or more on your college books, consider buying digital copies of the books, or even renting them, rather than buying them new at the college bookstore. Here's the LOZO on the best options...
- Cheap Digital Books: Buying digital copies of books allows you to purchase them at a much lower cost than buying the actual, physical book. Check out CafeScribe from Follett, which is the leading operator of college bookstores. Textbook Media also offers free and substantially discounted electronic books (they offset their costs because the books are 'sponsored' and contain a limited amount of ads in them). Other publishers may offer electronic options as well, just check their website.
- Renting Books: Another option is to rent textbooks from a leading service like Chegg which offers a 30-day refund and free return shipping. They have a great selection and the prices are generally very low compared to the cost of purchase (for example, it's not uncommon to find a $150 book being rented for $50).
