Most educational institutions offer discounts--sometimes substantial ones--on new computers and more. If you're not sure if your school gets a discount, check with your administration or just ask the retailer directly. Most large retailers offer some kind of student discount regardless of your school.

Here are links to a couple of the top retailers and the sites where you can get more information:
  • Apple: All you need to do is enter in your school and it automatically takes you through to it's "Education Store" where prices are discounted accordingly.
  • Hewlett Packard: You have to sign up with HP to get the student discount, but it's worth it for the savings.
  • Dell: Their Dell University site offers ongoing deals, contests and more. Plus--just like Apple--you can enter in your school for any additional savings it might be eligible for.
  • Microsoft: Their student-focused website will give you the rundown on all the discounts and services they offer. In particular, we like their DreamSpark program which provides "professional tools at no charge".
As always, be sure to compare these student prices against what you can get on your own. You might be able to find a better deal just by shopping around or taking advantage of another offer or sale.
