This holds true for all types of travel. In addition to often offering less healthy and less desirable food, most airport, train & roadside food is much more expensive than what you can make at home and take along. Pack granola bars, fruit, nuts, sandwiches, drinks and other easy-to-travel items with you to save money and to always be prepared if you hit a delay. Although you cannot carry drinks through airport security, you can pack food; and most other transportation allows you to carry both. Also, have a meal before you leave the house so you'll be less hungry and less tempted to splurge on the road.
