Many airlines now charge customers to check luggage, and the per-bag fees can add up quickly. By limiting belongings to carry-on bags or to one bag (for airlines like JetBlue that allows the first checked bag free), you can avoid these charges altogether. Check this list of up-to-date list fees by airline. For carry-ons, remember the TSA restricts liquids to 3.4 oz/100ml containers, inside one see-through quart-sized plastic bag.
