Fares are often discounted when flying to smaller, less popular airports. For example: try Stewart Airport (SWF) instead of JFK or LGA in New York City, Baltimore (BWI) instead of Dulles (IAD) in Washington DC, or several of the smaller airports in the Los Angeles area, like Orange County (SNA) or Ontario (ONT). When using a flight search engine like Orbitz.com or Kayak.com check the box for "search nearby airports" to have these included.

Good Point!
I fly in to BWI all the time to get to DC - it's so much cheaper!
